Uses:

1. Microbiological staining

Gram staining: As a key reagent, staining Gram positive bacteria purple is the fundamental method for bacterial classification and identification.

Direct microscopic staining of fungi and other microorganisms.

2. Histological and cytological staining

Used for staining animal and plant tissue sections to display cell nuclei.

It is also used in blood smear staining.

3. Industrial dyes

Used for manufacturing seal ink, carbon paper, ballpoint pen ink.

As a dye used for dyeing paper, silk, and leather.

4. Indicators and Analytical Chemistry

Can be used as an acid-base indicator for non-aqueous titration or determination of metal ions (pH 0.0-2.0, color changes from yellow to blue purple).

A coloring agent used in certain biochemical experiments.
