Polyoxyethylene (35) castor oil (EL-35)   EP/USP/CP

Pharmaceutical use of polyoxyethylene (35) castor oil (EL-35) as a pharmaceutical excipient:

1、 Increasing solvent

a. Solubilization of fat soluble vitamins: Used for the solubilization of fat soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, K, etc., to form transparent or milky colored aqueous solutions and enhance their stability in aqueous formulations. It is necessary to pre mix with fat soluble ingredients and gradually add water to avoid local milky color.

b. Solubilization of hydrophobic drugs: Solubilizes hydrophobic drugs such as dichlorobenzimidazole, clotrimazole, and benzocaine to help them disperse uniformly in aqueous solutions. Adding auxiliary materials such as polyethylene glycol and propylene glycol can enhance the solubilization effect and reduce the amount of EL-35 used.

2、 Emulsifier

Emulsification of liquid preparation: it is used for the preparation of fatty acids, fatty alcohols and drug lotion, and forms a stable lotion by adjusting the EL-35 ratio (5% -10%). As an emulsifier in injections, it ensures stable dispersion of fat soluble drugs such as paclitaxel.

3、 Lubricants and Anti Adhesive Granules

Tablet lubrication: used as a substitute for magnesium stearate for easily sticky and washable tablets such as clopidogrel bisulfate tablets, with both lubrication and hydrophobic anti spotted effects, at a dosage of 0.2% -2%.

4、 Application of special preparations

a. Injection carrier: As a solvent for chemotherapy drugs such as paclitaxel, it improves its water solubility and bioavailability.

b. Suppositories and cream bases: used for the preparation of glycerol suppositories to enhance drug release uniformity; As a component of cream base, it improves the permeability of hydrophobic drugs in skin preparations.
